The Surface Transportation Board (STB) on Friday accepted a revised application for the proposed CSX-Pan Am merger filed earlier this month.
In its announcement Friday, published in the Federal Register, the STB said the revised application “meets the requirements” and formally accepted it for consideration. The Board also adopted a procedural schedule and is expected to issue a final decision by April 1, 2022. If approved, the merger would go into effect May 1, 2022.
Support for the proposed CSX/Pan Am merger has grown in recent days, most notably as Maine Governor Janet Mills filed a letter of support with the STB. “This transaction has the potential to bring substantial benefits to Maine. The state of Maine relies on rail traffic to deliver goods and support our economy,” Mills said, further noting that the deal would “benefit Maine businesses and shippers that rely on freight rail to ship products and goods and positively impact passenger rail service.”
Dozens of shippers and elected officials have also filed letters endorsing the deal, with support expected to grow in the coming months as the STB considers the merger application.
